Finding the exact color requires locating the code on the inside of the driver's door jam, in the glove box, or the vehicle's identification number. The paints are sold anywhere automotive parts are available.
Start the process by washing and drying the car. Remove any grease, wax, or rust on the affected areas 220-grit sandpaper. Sandpaper also creates a textured surface to encourage the paint to adhere. Wash and dry the treated areas to remove fine debris created by sanding.
If the problem permeates the finish to bare metal, a primer must first be applied. Using a fine bristle brush, apply a drop of paint and spread to cover the area. Allow the paint to dry for one hour. Apply two or three more coats.
