The Importance of Brake Fluid

Did you know that your vehicle's brakes are actually part of an entire system? Brake fluid, or hydraulic fluid, helps to keep the whole system operational and exists within the brake lines. Brake fluid does not last forever because it comes into contact with moisture from the air. It needs to be drained and replaced about once a year so that it keeps working properly.

If your brake fluid is not flowing properly, your car will not be able to brake. When you hit the brake pedal, it compresses a piston in the brake clipper, which puts pressure in the brake lines and allows the brake rotors to connect with the brake pads. The brake pads contact the wheels, which stops their rotation.

Before you go too long without replacing your brake fluid, stop in at Sunnyvale Ford to have your brake fluid replaced and your entire brake system inspected.
